Landfill Tax Escalator Announced for 2011 - 2013
Alistair Darling announced in the "world's first Carbon Budget" that the Landfill Tax escalator would continue after 2011. The announcement on 22nd April clarified that Landfill Tax will rise by £8 per tonne on April 1st each year, until 2013. The Government's aim is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 0.7mt each year.
The Chancellor stated that the continued tax increase incentivised investment in sustainable alternative treatment options for waste. Orwak promotes segregation of recyclable waste from the waste stream, thus preventing large amounts of cardboard, aluminium, steel, glass and plastic from going to landfill. As Landfill Tax rises, there is further incentive for businesses to introduce waste balers which can reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and therefore reduce your costs. The baled waste can also be sold to provide a revenue stream.
